VBAC-Course-Leeds

Have you already done an NHS birth after caesarean education session or NHS VBAC Birth Preparation Course?

If you've already completed a birth after Caesarean education session or VBAC birth preparation course through the NHS, ask yourself:

  • Were you given evidenced based, balanced information about all of your options?

  • Did you feel that you will be supported in the decisions that feel right for you and your baby?

  • Were both the benefits and risks discussed equally for a VBAC birth and a repeat caesarean birth?

  • Were all of your questions answered fully and clearly?

  • Did you leave feeling empowered, confident and prepared for your upcoming birth?

Whilst NHS care can be invaluable, the information that you are given at antenatal appointments, birth after caesarean education sessions or VBAC birth preparation classes can be bias and can heavily include local hospital trust policies, varying levels of VBAC support from the care providers and not provide you with honest evidence based information. Hospital trust policies are guidelines for healthcare professionals. They are not laws or rules that you must follow, and they do not override your legal rights. You are not required to consent to a procedure or intervention simply because it is hospital policy. Your right to make informed decisions about your body and your care remains protected throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period. Many of my clients leave NHS birth preparation courses or antenatal appointments feeling misinformed, disappointed or confused.

VBAC Frequently Asked Questions

What is a VBAC? A VBAC is a vaginal birth after a caesarean section.

Is a VBAC safe? Yes, for most people who opt for a VBAC, it is a safe option. However, it all depends on the individuals circumstances. As part of the course we will delve into the latest evidence, the risks and benefits and discuss your own individual circumstances, so that you can make an informed decision.

Can I have a VBAC if I have had 2 previous caesarean sections? Yes, many people do have a VBA2C. The data is limited when it comes to the risks, but the NICE guidelines do recognise VBA2C and suggest to follow an individual care plan.

What are the chances of having a successful VBAC? Having a successful VBAC after one previous caesarean section, is around 72-75% for low risk pregnancies. Where the labour is induced, it is slightly lower.

Can you be induced if you are planning a VBAC? Yes, you can have induction of labour for a VBAC, but the process needs to be managed differently, compared to other vaginal births.
